Montreal has always had its own distinct flavour when it came to computers.  Sure there are the big chain stores all around and the little fly by night shops but the 2 stores that I have remembered being in Montreal forever are Frosty’s and Mircobytes.  Each one had their positive and negative attributes.

Frosty’s, of course, has the funnier story.  When you are told about it, the usual reaction is that this place can’t possibly exist.  No taxes????   Well yes young whippersnappers it is true.  Everything you have heard about it.  From the description of the store (“in some guy’s basement”) to the service (“it’s as though you are being served by the soup Nazi”).  The store offers some of the lowest prices in Montreal but just make sure you know what you want and you do not talk too much when you visit them; they want to sell you what you need and then get to the next guy standing in line.

As for Microbytes, well just ask somebody who knows Microbytes and they’ll tell you what you need to know.

Microbytes is a store that has all the parts you’ll need for your computer system.  They have had to find pieces and older items too (I found a dual parallel printer port using a single pci-slot.)  And Microbytes too has a reputation
